The NHS's own site and main portal for health advice. A symptom checker is available. Links in with the service staffed by trained professionals that is available 24 hours a day by telephone. ► More info

Has an encyclopedia on a large number of health topics. Major health news and information on scares is posted on the main pages of this site. Offers a wide variety of ways to get advice, including usual web browsing, but also email, telephone, and via mobile app. You can ring NHS 111 at any time on 111. NHS Choices

The NHS main site, where you can find and choose NHS services such as hospitals in your area. Here you will be able to see where your nearest dentist is, as well as find advice on a huge range of medical conditions and medications. ► More info

You can also sign up for their health newsletter, packed with health tips for you and your family. NHS Choices looks at the stories behind the headlines of recent health news. As well as advice on illness, there is an entire section on promoting and keeping good health with articles on smoking, weight, exercise, alcohol and diet. Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
